Taking forgotten pieces of the past and
turning them into modern treasures.

When Michael and Erin married, their main goal was to someday have their own home-based business where they could share the responsibilities of raising and teaching their future children and have a slower and more meaningful life.Michael was working a very unfulfilling job with long hours, and after the birth of their second child, it became nearly unbearable for him to walk out the door each morning, knowing he wouldn’t see his children again until the following morning.Michael and Erin started up Olive Spoon Studio as a way to escape the brutal pace of Michael’s job, and as a means to their dream of living and working at home. After one crazy year of doing both jobs, Michael finally escaped the rat race and the two have been full time crafters ever since.

Spoon Ring  Heritage Spoon Bracelet

Olive Spoon Studio came about from a combination of Erin’s love of antique silverware, and Michael’s love of upcycling. They both love the thrill of the hunt, scouring antique shops, flea markets, and fairs all over New England for old flatware. Michael turns the finds into beautiful jewelry, and stamps words and phrases onto spoons and forks. Erin helps stamp silverware and runs the shop.

Michael and Erin are fascinated by the beauty and artistry of antique flatware, and rescuing it from scrap bins to turn it into a new treasure is a joy. Lately, with the price of sterling at an all-time high, many people are bringing in their old pieces of silverplated flatware to trade for cash. When they are told the flatware is silverplated, not sterling, they either leave it there to be scrapped, or they take it to the dump.

Sugar and Spice Spoon Cheese Marker Set

More than once, while out on his hunts, Michael has walked into a shop and just missed an earlier customer who was trying to sell their silverplated flatware, but was turned away and given directions to the dump. Mike has actually tried to intercept them and rescue their silverware! Though these old pieces are not sterling, they are just as beautiful and should be treasured for the small pieces of history that they are. Olive Spoon Studio believes worth should not be measured by the value of the materials used, but by the talent, beauty and labor that went into its creation! When you buy from Olive Spoon Studio, you are not only supporting handmade, but you are also supporting one little Rhode Island family of four. This is what they do and they appreciate you more than you know!
