Jolie Mae Collections

James and I have always wanted to have our own business since we met. We got married in 2006, bought our first home, and not having a lot of money we made Christmas gifts for our friends and family. We decided to make signs – James cut the wood and sanded it. I painted and stenciled wording on them. They came out nice, but I was not totally satisfied with them.

We had our first daughter in 2008, as soon as I became a mother, I wanted nothing more than to be a stay at home mom. I stayed at my full time job working in accounting, but reduced my hours to be at home with Olivia more.

With a bad ecomony and hard to find steady work for James, we struggled through with different ideas of our own business and ways to make ends meet, nothing seemed to be working for us though.

In 2010 we had our second daughter, Emma. I left my accounting job and I worked various part time jobs to keep making ends meet -making jewelry, waitressing, babysitting, and cleaning. James found a really good full time job and worked side jobs when he could to allow me to stay at home with the girls.

I saw a sign one day that I loved…..and I thought, we could do that, but I was not sure how. Through some research and testing some sample product. We started with the idea of the signs we did years ago as christmas gifts, made changes, and came up with a product that I was completely happy with! We sold out of them at a local craft show.

We decided to start selling on Etsy, and named our shop after our girls – with their middle names.  Jolie Mae Collections was born! I love creating personal, meaningful pieces for everyone. Whether it be a wedding sign, baby sign, a favorite bible verse, or favorite inside joke. I love having quotes – large or small – around my home to read daily and remind me of what is most important in life.  What makes me smile.

I no longer work at any other part time jobs, and we are so busy that James does not have time to do any other side work jobs.
James works full time, comes home and gets to work in the basement on orders that need to be filled.

I am able to be at home with my girls during their very young years, provide for our family, and love my job. I love the flexibility I have to be able to take my girls to the playground on a nice day, take them to preschool, and be a parent volunteer when needed. I am able to always be here for them, but it is not all easy. The girls are very understanding and helpful when I am really busy with work. Most nights we work until midnight to get orders out and get the most work done we can while the girls are sleeping.

We work out of our home, our living room has become my workshop – filled with shelves of production, paint, vinyl, shipping supplies, and my desk. James does all of the woodworking in our basement, with a garage in the works in our backyard! We are looking forward to this being his main shop in 2014.

We love what we do and are very proud of what we have accomplished. We take a lot of pride in all of our work to give our customers a quality piece with a reasonable price. We are always in the process of making new products and love to do custom pieces.  I love designing and creating custom pieces for that very special wedding day or a special gift for someone.
