Keeping a Summer Schedule for Kid’s
It’s hard to believe it, but summer is closer than you think. As the dog-days of warmer weather approach, most parents find that when that last school bell rings heralding in a few long months of the kid’s at home, they were ill-prepared to fill their children’s time. That is when the TV begins to fill the gaps, and the computer will gladly consume the remainder of the hours of the day. If you want to have something more enriching ready for the kid’s to do, now is the time to begin to plan a schedule you, and they, can live with.
Just because they are out of the classroom doesn’t mean that learning should be set aside for the summer. By designating a regular block of time specific to learning activities, they’ll be all better for it come autumn. Many children receive a workbook or project to complete for the next school year and rather than cramming it all in the last few weeks of August, using a set schedule each day dedicated to the task means it will be completed before summer’s end. Reading time is just as important and can be a fun activity if the whole family is engaged in a favorite book. Either you can choose a book together to read aloud, or let them select something they can escape into during the lounging areas around the pool or in the shade. You might also wish to schedule chores so that expectations are set early. You want to establish a daily routine that isn’t burdensome yet can help break up the day into manageable sections between other activities that are more enjoyable. And don’t forget a snack schedule. By establishing set times for ‘between meals’ snacking you help prevent gorging in junk foods and the pilfering of the fridge each day. Source: Single Parents Image Source: Flickr
