I’d like to introduce you to Heather Shaw of p i ‘ l o!
Heather’s work is simply beautiful! She explains a little about herself and p i ‘ l o, “Everything in this collection is hand made by myself and the wonderful women who sometimes help me . We work out of a coach house studio behind a Victorian house in the heart of downtown Toronto. It is a very calm and soothing space with lots of natural light and plenty of inspiration . We endeavour to make things carefully and responsibly and hope that each item will be passed down to future generations as family heirlooms.”
Heather’s a busy mom and talented artist. “I have been making things for as long as I can remember… and have started selling things that I made while at art school. There was no career decision or business plan. It has just sort of evolved, changing with me as I grow. So when my sister had kids and I became an aunt, I started selling the same items that I was making them as gifts, and launched a children’s line on the side. When I had babies, the children’s line sort of took over there for a while and now that my babies are a bit older, the focus has shifted again. I started using their drawings for some of the pillows and am making things that we want to have. I feel very blessed that I have always been able to make whatever I want and that other people seem to want the same things.”

I’d have to put myself in the ‘take your chances on getting your clothes dirty’ category when it comes to apron wearing. But, my ways could be changed with this beautiful piece. And, I love Heather’s passion for creating family heirlooms in her designs. An apron worn with love and then handed down. That’s pretty special!

I don’t usually wear an apron, I haven’t really since I stopped working at the restaurant I was running(except for dress-up time), but I really love this and would love to pass it down to one of my daughters. 🙂
